Life learning
Collette is a lot crazy. She can’t sit still and has to have 10 different projects going on at the same time. Her studio is full of “Unfinished Business” because she has ADD: “Always Disorderly Distracted.” When she gets to a ponder point, there’s always another project to focus her attention. Collette is authentic, funny and a little bit cheeky. She loves a good story, hanging out with Larry and Izzydog, boisterous discussions and hiding out in her garden.
“My plants and I have some good conversations when there’s no humans around. On occasion, I have to implore a backyard skunk to take another route!”
Shamanic practice informs her art and her love of all creation. Her goal is to make art that creates joy and serves the good of all. Her favorite thing is to gather peeps together to do art with intention. Because she has so many interests, her capacity to produce vast amounts of work is not possible but she hopes that the few pieces she manages to bring to fullness have a quality that shouts:
“Wake up and let’s work together to dream a new dream! The nightmare we're presently living isn’t working.”
Originally from Southern California, she paused awhile in Idaho, then landed in Montana. She's lived in Mexico, exhibited in random places like Chicago, Tokai, Los Angeles and Helena. Since moving to Montana, she has developed old world custom furniture finishes, worked as a decorative artist, facilitated three art exhibits, showed in a few places and taught many classes in her studio. "I want others to encounter their own creativity!"
Collette traded work for dental work and that image was chosen for the 2016 Bozeman Sweet Pea Poster! During Covid she painted "Imagine the Ellen" for the Ellen Theatre's 100 year celebration and has just completed illustrations for "Nature Portals" a practical guide for encountering the Animate Earth. She has a BFA, MFA and a Badge of Honor for raising four kids, painting, dreaming, teaching art, gallery exhibits, breathing, praying, doing workshops, traveling, recycling, custom furniture finishing, murals, sign writing, stage scenery, and wondering what being an artist is all about!
Exhibits
"I've done enough exhibiting to know I love meeting people and seeing the delight on their faces. If I know that my work will be loved and appreciated, take it home! Gives me more space to do new things! I never said I was very practical. The business part of the whole thing makes me weep. So make me an offer I can't refuse and we'll make a deal. "
